Blue Rain Osaka relasea in 1993, with main actor is Kiriko Shimizu, making her debut here in a career that would eventually go beyond the pink (with small roles in A Taxing Woman and Moonlight Whispers), maintaining a seductive presence throughout, whether she’s swooning or quietly playing the piano, while Saeko Kuga (whose career unfortunately didn’t go as far as Shimizu’s) is charming in a ghostly role that’s so French New Wave-esque that their compelling performances don’t do justice to a mediocre play that seems to signify something across the culture.
